Wow. Being a mom of a 'tween' boy, and feeling all mixed up about how to show my love for him, this article really touched me. I loved it...

I just found this website today. I loved this essay about Tracy and her son. My son is 11. He's never been much of a talker. I spend lots of time reading between the lines with the things he does mention. The things that are important to him ie the new wii game and his fantasy books, are foreign to me. Somehow, we also have a common language. Tracy reminded me to keep listening and enjoying our time together...wherever we find it.

I was moved by this essay, as well. I am a new mother. My son has just reached his first birthday. I can hardly imagine letting him out of my sight...let alone out of my house. I commend this writer on conveying the complexity of emotion inherent to the letting go/holding on dynamic of mothering. I hope that I can find a similar grace when we make it to those years of longer goodbyes and returns.
